Red Men Take One Last Stab at National Qualifier

WAVERLY, IOWA — The Carthage College men's track and field team participated in the Wartburg College Final Qualifier in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday March 2. Nine Red Men competed today, with highlights in weight throw and running events.

The Red Men had a solid performance from Aaron Austin, who traveled to UW-Stevens Point for the Pointer Final Qualifier and placed third place with a mark of 17.28 meters.

Back in Waverly, Iowa the 4x4 meter relay team, (Dante Graham, Ronny Onano, Dane Rasmussen, and Michael Schantek) ran a 3:19.75, which placed them fourth. Camren Howard entered a 1:56.86 in the 800-meter run securing fifth place, Michael Schantek contributed to the Red Men's overall score by running a 49.87 in the 400 Meter dash.

Logan Engberg had a particularly robust performance in the 5000 meter, running a 14:52:57 beating his own previous school record of 14:56:36 from the 2018 indoor season. Engberg's time of 14:52:57 assured him sixth place at the meet.

On Sunday, March 3 national track and field qualifiers will be confirmed, with several of the Red Men and Lady Reds anticipating to make the 2019 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship at UMass Boston on March 8-9.
