CCIW RELEASE

NAPERVILLE, ILL.—Carthage College softball junior pitcher Stefanie Guercio landed College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second-straight time on Tuesday afternoon. Guercio now has three CCIW Softball Pitcher of the Week awards to her name throughout her two seasons with the Lady Reds. Amara Leith (North Park) took home CCIW Softball Hitter of the Week.

The Park Ridge, Illinois native engineered Carthage to a 5-1 record in their final six games at The Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida on March 6-8. Guercio allowed no runs and registered 27 strikeouts over 16 innings of work on the pitching rubber, which helped her achieve a 3-0 win-loss record. She also walked just five batters and allowed six hits over that span.

Two of Guercio's three appearances on the week were complete-game shutouts, which occurred in an 8-0 decision over Eastern on March 7, and a 3-0 win over Roanoke on March 8. She tallied 12 strikeouts and allowed three hits against Roanoke. Guercio added nine more strikeouts to her resume and allowed just two hits and walked no batters in the five-inning mercy rule win over Eastern. She allowed just one hit and struckout six batters over the first four innings of a 9-0 win over Penn State Brandywine on March 6.

The transfer from NAIA Southeastern University commands the Carthage pitching staff with a miniscule 0.66 ERA, 63 strikeouts, a .131 opponent batting average and a 4-1 win-loss record over 31 2/3 innings pitched.

Guercio and the Lady Reds (7-3) will take on Milwaukee School of Engineering (DH) on Saturday, March 16 at the MSOE Athletic Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at 12:00 p.m.
