Logan Engberg Breaks 5000 Meter Run School Record at UW-Whitewater

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's track & field team had their hands full with a deep field at the UW-Whitewater Midwest Invitational on Saturday, where they registered eighth place out of 10 teams with 23 points. The highlight of Carthage's day was Logan Engberg, who registered the Carthage indoor 5000 meter run school record with a mark of 14:56.36, good enough for seventh place out of 31 runners. Engberg's time edged Michael Von Borstel's previous school-record time of 15:02.27 achieved in 2017.
 
Camren Howard also highlighted the Carthage distance athletes in the one-mile run, where he claimed 12th place with a 4:29.38. Michael Schantek stood out among the mid-distance runners after he crossed the finish line at 51.17 en route to 11th place out of 49 athletes in the 400 meter dash. Ronny Onano was also stellar in the 400 meter dash with a 15th-place time of 51.45.
 
Carlos Baggett prevailed for the Red Men in the 60 meter dash qualifying round, where he notched a second-place time of 7.11. The 4x400 meter relay squad of David Rogers, Ronny Onano, Dane Rasmussen and Michael Schantek continued to shine for Carthage as they mustered a time of 3.21.64, which put them in third place out of 21 teams.
 
Aaron Austin commanded the Red Men throwers with a fifth-place toss of 16.72m in the weight throw, and an eighth-place mark of 14.33m in the shot put. Nate Meador (14.30m) and Caleb Hays (13.58m) followed Austin in ninth and 10th place in the shot put.
 
The Red Men will return to action Saturday, February 16 at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenege. Start time is set for 9:30 a.m.
