Lady Reds To Host Titans in Rare, One-Game Week

THE GAMES

  • The Carthage College women's basketball team (14-6, 8-3 CCIW) will host #13 Illinois Wesleyan University (16-4, 9-2 CCIW) in a rare, one-game week on Saturday, February 2 at 5:00 p.m.
  • Both squads will enter Saturday fresh-off a loss to Wheaton College. The Thunder nipped the Lady Reds 61-51 on January 26 while Illinois Wesleyan saw their five-game winning streak end in a 58-52 loss on January 31. 
  • The Lady Reds pace all CCIW teams in every three-point field goal category on both ends of the floor. Carthage's three-point field goal defense (.277) and three-point field goal percentage (.385) leads the CCIW. Carthage ranks among the top-10 NCAA Division III teams in three-point field goal percentage (.385), three-point field goals made (186) and three-point field goals per game (9.3). 
  • Madie Kaelber, who carries 937 career points for the Lady Reds, is 63 away from eclipsing 1,000 for her career.
  • Carthage's Autumn Kalis (.444, 13th) and Sammie Woodward (.438, 17th) rank among the top-20 NCAA Division III women's basketball players in three-point field goal percentage.
  • The Titans' four losses this season came at the hands of University of Chicago (77-76), UW-Whitewater (78-73) and Wheaton (56-54, 58-52). 
  • Maddie Merritt paces Illinois Wesleyan's balanced attack with 16.5 points per game along with a .518 (116-224) field goal percentage. Sydney Shanks rounds out the Titans in double-figures with 12.7 points per game and a team-leading 3.8 assists per game.
