Women’s Swimming and Diving Place Third at Calvin Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women posted some strong individual performances on day two of the Calvin College Invitational, taking third place with 840 team points on the final day of competition Saturday.

To begin day two, Julia Cozzi and Trisha Garcia took second and third, respectively, in the women's one-meter dive, each setting career-bests. In the first race of the day, the Lady Reds team of Heather Walker, Mackinzee Macho, Gianna McGuire, and Deann Jones took third place in the 200-free relay, clocking a time of 1:53.50. In the 400 IM, Mattea Arndt took sixth place with a time of 5:00.87, as Macho gave Carthage another top-eight finish, touching the wall in 1:01.98 in the 100-yard fly and placing seventh.

In the 200-yard freestyle, the Lady Reds dominated, as Becca Rutkowski was first to finish with a time of 1:58.46, with Jordyn Bloode right behind her in second at 1:58.72. Walker picked up a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.52, with the women ending the morning session on a second-place finish by the 800-yard free relay team with a time of 8:05.97.

Bloode began the afternoon races with a strong showing of 18:18.37 in the 1650-yard free, claiming first place for Carthage. The Lady Reds would later dominate the 100-yard free, with Rutkowski touching the wall first with a time of 53.23 and Jones right behind her in second at 54.75.

The women's 400-yard free relay team ended the day with a second-place finish after posting a 3:40.45.

"I saw improvements in performances from last week in both relays and individual events over the three sessions this weekend. We started off by posting a season-best time in the 200 free relay, then the team continued to build momentum from then on."
