Lady Reds Take Down Elmhurst in 9-0 Victory

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Carthage College women's tennis team picked up their third 9-0 win on the season, defeating Elmhurst College at the Smeds Tennis Center on Wednesday.

"It's always nice to get a win in the CCIW," said head coach Brady Lindsley. "I feel like the ladies are starting to come together as a team and they're really playing some good tennis."

The Lady Reds (3-3, 3-3 CCIW) took each court in doubles by a score of 8-1, with Sam Ramsey and Rachel Anderson finishing first at court two. Nia Pham and Sierra Sonnemaker were next to finish their match over at court three, with Jen Ptak and Giana Apostoli giving Carthage a 3-0 advantage from court one.

This week's conference player of the week, Ramsey was first to win her match in singles on court three 6-2, 6-1, before Sonnemaker clinched the victory on the fifth point for the Lady Reds at court six. At the lead court, Apostoli shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0, as Pham, Ptak, and Anderson closed out their matches to give Carthage their third win on the season.

The Lady Reds will hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches, first taking on Millikin Friday, October 11 at 1:30 p.m., followed by Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, October 12 at 10 a.m.
