Women Picked Third, Men Fourth in CCIW Preseason Basketball Coaches’ Polls

NAPPERVILLE, Ill. — The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) released their Preseason Men's and Women's Basketball Coaches' Polls on Wednesday, with the women earning 52 points and placing third, while the men garnered 42 points to come in fourth.

After finishing last season with a 17-10 overall record and going 10-6 in conference play, the women's team returns four of their top six scorers from the previous year. First-Team All-Conference member Autumn Kalis and three-time All-CCIW selection Madie Kaelber lead the charge under head coach Tim Bernero, who is set to begin his 17th season. The Lady Reds open their schedule at home on November 9, when they host Clavin College at 1 p.m. in Tarble Arena.

Wheaton received the most points in the women's pll at 64, garnering eight of the first-place votes, followed by Illinois Wesleyan in second with 55 points.

The men look to improve upon last year's 8-17 and 3-13 in-conference records from a season ago. Picked to finish four spots higher than where they placed in 2019, the Red Men are set to make a splash as they return their top-four scorers, led by Second-Team All-CCIW selection Kienan Baltimore. Set to begin his 24th season at the helm, Bosko Djurickovic begins the 2019-20 season with 552 career victories, the ninth-most among active Division III coaches. Carthage opens their new campaign at home as well, hosting Beloit College on Tuesday, November 12 at 7 p.m.

North Central was picked first in this year's men's poll with 63 points and seven first-place votes, while Ausgustana received two top votes and 56 points. Illinois Wesleyan sits just ahead of the Red Men in third with 47 points.
