Carthage Sweeps North Park 9-0

RACINE, Wis. -- Moving indoors due to rain didn't slow down the Carthage College women's tennis team, as they defeated North Park University 9-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Racine Tennis Club.

"This was a much needed win," said head coach Brady Lindsley. "The girls played hard, but now we will get back to work tomorrow to get ready for a tough opponent on Friday."

The Lady Reds (2-2, 2-2 CCIW) rolled with the same lineup in doubles they've used for their first three matches this season, with each duo grabbing their second win of the season. Court three was first to finish, as Nia Pham and Sierra Sonnemaker won their match 8-2, with Rachel Anderson and Sam Ramsey finishing moments later with an 8-3 victory. On court one, Giana Apostoli and Jen Ptak completed the sweep in doubles for Carthage with an 8-4 win.

In singles, Sonnemaker made quick work of her opponent with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court six, as Pham clinched the dual match win for Carthage with a 6-2, 6-0 match at court five. Over on court two, Ptak kept her undefeated record alive with a 6-1, 6-1 victory to remain at 4-0 in singles on the 2019 season.

At court four, Anderson claimed her match by a score of 6-1, 6-1, with last week's conference player of the week Apostoli winning her match 6-0, 6-3 at court one. Ramsey would close out the match after taking her tie-breaker 10-6 to clinch the sweep for the Lady Reds.

Carthage will remain at home this weekend, hosting Augustana this Friday, October 4 at 4 p.m. at the Smeds Tennis Center.
