BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Carthage College women's tennis team picked up their fourth 9-0 sweep this season, defeating Illinois Wesleyan Saturday morning at the Evergreen Racquet Club.
"We had a nice weekend," said head coach Brady Lindsley. "Hopefully this will give us some confidence going into next weekend's conference championships."
Nia Pham and Sierra Sonnemaker were first to get the Lady Reds (5-3, 5-3 CCIW) on the board with an 8-2 doubles win at court three. At court two, Sam Ramsey and Rachel Anderson paired up for an 8-3 win, while Giana Apostoli and Jen Ptak won their match at court one 8-4.
After a strong 6-0, 6-0 win yesterday, Sonnemaker turned in a quick win once again today, this time 6-2, 6-0 at court six. At court five, Pham clinched the match victory for Carthage with their fifth point, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Anderson and Ptak won their matches convincingly at courts four and two, respectively, while Ramsey won hers 6-1, 6-1 and Apostoli 6-3, 6-1 at the lead court.
The Lady Reds now turn their attention to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Tennis Championship, which begins Thursday, October 17 in Hanover Park, Ill.
