KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College men's tennis team won their opening dual match of the 2018-19 season, defeating the University of St. Francis on Tuesday night in Kenosha, 7-2.
The win moves the Red Men to 1-0 on the year, while the Fighting Saints fall to 0-2 in 2018.
Moving away from the normal format with doubles first, Carthage began the night with a dominant 5-1 start in singles to claim the decision in the match before even getting to the pairs competition. Claiming victories for the Red Men were
Daniel Moore at number-one,
John Nykyforuk at number-two, Andre Antreassian at number-three,
Tripp Schulte at number-five and
Oscar Irazoque at number-six. Nykyforuk, Schulte and Irazoque each won in straight sets.
In doubles play, the Red Men's top duo of Moore and Antreassian made quick work of the Fight Saints' top pair with an 8-1 win in one doubles, while Nykyforuk and
Fordy Leipold blanked their opponents in number-three doubles, 8-0.

Coming up for the Red Men, Carthage will head make the long trek to St. Paul, Minnesota for the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Midwest Regionals Friday, Saturday and Sunday, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.
