Women's Tennis Tops Pioneers On Thursday, 7-2

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Lady Reds improved to 2-1 in dual matches this season on Thursday in Waukesha, defeating the Carroll University Pioneers, 7-2.
 
The win also moves the Lady Reds to 2-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, while Carroll falls to 0-1 in the league and 1-3 overall.
 
The doubles two and three squads opened with dominant performances, as Natalie Favia and Nia Pham won 8-1 in two-doubles and Maria Salerno and Hannah Haeberle shutout their opponents in three-doubles to take a 2-1 lead after Carroll topped Carthage's number-one doubles duo.
 
In singles play, the Lady Reds won five-of-six matches to win the match, led by reigning CCIW Player of the Week, Angelica Emmanouil, who defeated Grace Krueger in straight sets in one-singles.  Behind Emmanouil, the other four matches that went the Lady Reds' way were also in straight sets as Sam Ramsey won three-singles, Maria Salerno won four-singles, Nia Pham won five-singles and Faelan O'Shaughnessy claimed six-singles.

The Lady Reds will get a week off before they return to action with their annual trip to St. Peter, Minnesota for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals.  The three-day event will start on Friday, September 21st at 9:00 a.m., with finals on Sunday, September 23rd.
