NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Carthage College Red Men won their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship opener on Thursday, defeating the Millikin University Big Blue in the quarterfinals, 5-2.
 
The win moves the Red Men into Friday's semifinals with a record of 12-10 as the number-four seed, while the fifth-seeded Bibg Blue's season comes to and end at 9-9.
 
Carthage jumped on Millikin by taking two-of-three in the doubles competition with wins by Herman Abban and Daniel Moore over Jacob Palley and Colin Sandgren in one-doubles, and by John Nykyforuk and Matt Krzewinski in three-doubles over Greg Schwoeppe and Dane Pierantoni.
 
Abban took care of Palley easily in one singles to put the Red Men up 3-1, and after Millikin took number three singles, Daniel Moore and Oscar Irazoque win their number-two and six matches respectively to claim the victory for the Red Men.
