Red Men to Face Titans in 2018 CCIW Opener

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (8-3, 0-0 CCIW) will open their 2018 CCIW schedule at Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 7 at 12:00 p.m. 

Andy Szun's record-setting performance against Olivet College on March 31 landed him CCIW Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, and earned him a spot on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Team of the Week for the third time this season on April 3. Szun notched a school-record 11 goals, and tied for a school-record 14 points against Olivet. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native leads NCAA Division III with 4.45 goals per game and 79 points, and ranks second nationally with 6.45 points per game. Teammate Andy Meyers ranks third in the country with 11.45 ground balls per game, and fifth with a .731 (158-216) face-off percentage.
 
Among NCAA Division III squads, the Red Men rank third in assists (115), fourth in face-off percentage (.726), fifth in ground balls (438), sixth in assists per game (10.45), eighth in scoring defense (6.00) and ninth in scoring margin (8.09).
 
ABOUT ILLINOIS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY (7-3, 2-0 CCIW)
 
Illinois Wesleyan's bout against Carthage will cap a three-game week that began with a 13-9 loss to Aurora University on April 2, and a 28-9 victory over North Central College (Ill.) on April 4. The Titans will take an NCAA Division III-leading 33.10 points per game, and a second-ranked 12.10 assists per game into their showdown against the Red Men.
 
James Malbuecher paces Illinois Wesleyan in scoring with 32 goals and 22 assists for 54 points. Bauley Marth and Nick Winter follow with 44 points apiece. J.C. Grabarek, who ranks third in the country with 11.50 ground balls per game, controls Illinois Wesleyan's face-off efforts with a 177-of-257 (.689) mark.  Benigno Houser commands the Titan goalkeepers with a 13.67 goals against average, a .460 save percentage and a 5-2 win-loss record over seven starts this season.
 
Zach Iannucci (54-25) is in his fifth season as Illinois Wesleyan head men's lacrosse coach. The Red Men own a 5-1 all-time record against the Titans.
