Rare Three-Game Week Ahead For Red Men

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (8-4, 0-1 CCIW) will kick-off a three-game home stand against Augustana College on Tuesday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. The Red Men will conclude their rare, three-game week with home games against Elmhurst College on Thursday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m., and University of Dubuque on Saturday, April 21 at 12:00 p.m. Carthage will end their nine-day hiatus from competition on Tuesday after they fell to Illinois Wesleyan 30-10 on April 8.
 
Junior attack Andy Szun ranks third among NCAA Division III men's lacrosse players in goals per game (4.33), and fourth in points per game (6.17). The Winnipeg, Manitoba native's eight man-up goals ranks 10th in the country.  Andy Meyers, who sports a .659 (166-252) face-off percentage through 12 games, ranks fourth in the country in ground balls per game (11.00). As a team, the Red Men are fifth among NCAA Division III teams in assists per game (10.00), and ninth in assists (120).
 
Zerik Rodriguez commands the Red Men goalies with a .442 save percentage and an 8.45 goals against average over 12 starts this season.
 
ABOUT AUGUSTANA COLLEGE (ILL.) (7-4, 2-0 CCIW)
 
The Vikings will take a two-game win streak into Saturday's showdown at Carthage. They opened CCIW play with a 9-6 victory over Dubuque on April 4, then defeated North Central (Ill.) 6-5 on April 7. This occurred after an 0-3 start to the season that included losses to Albion (14-8), Beloit (10-9) and Rhodes (20-4).
 
Freshman Trevor Moore paces the Vikings scorers with 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points. Nick Zielinski (24) and Lee Whorwell (23) round out the Augustana 20+ point scorers through 11 games. McKay Potter, who went 4-for-25 in the face-off circle throughout his two games against Carthage last season, sports a .626 (132-211) face-off percentage this season.
 
Jake Ellis leads the Augustana goalies with a 5.95 goals against average and a .538 save percentage over 10 appearances this season.  Dan Torie (25-22) is in his third season as Augustana head men's lacrosse coach. The Red Men carry a 7-2 all-time record against Augustana.
 
ABOUT ELMHURST COLLEGE (10-2, 2-1 CCIW)
 
The Bluejays dropped a 17-10 decision to Illinois Wesleyan University in their previous game on April 15. Their other loss this season occurred on February 21 when they fell to Aurora 8-7. Carter Meyer ranks second in the CCIW, and ninth among NCAA Division III men's lacrosse players with a .690 (181-243) face-off winning percentage. This paved the way for Meyer's 10.17 ground balls per game, which ranks fifth in the country. 
 
Mac Harden commands the Bluejays' offense with 41 goals and 13 assists for 54 points. Harden is fourth in the country with 4.00 goals per game, and 11th with 5.27 points per game. Elmhurst is sixth among NCAA Division III squads with 25.25 points per game, and an 8.83 scoring margin.
 
Jacob Delgado leads the Elmhurst goalies with a 4.53 goals against average and a .634 save percentage over eight starts this season.
 
The 2018 season is Mark Morrell's (41-49) sixth as Elmhurst head men's lacrosse coach. Carthage is 7-0 all-time against the Bluejays.
 
ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE (7-7, 1-3 CCIW)
 
The Spartans are coming off a 13-4 victory over Carroll (Wis.) on April 14, their first CCIW victory of the season. Their three CCIW losses this season occurred against Elmhurst College on April 11 (20-2), Augustana College on April 4 (9-6) and Illinois Wesleyan University on March 20 (27-7).
 
Michael Jango paces the Spartan scorers this season with 32 goals and four assists for 36 points. Michael Julius (28), Tanner Weis (22) and Davis Behrns (20) round out the 20+ point scorers in Dubuque's lineup. Terrance Green leads the face-off corps with a .503 (79-157) figure while Andrew Wagner commands the defense with 19 caused turnovers.
 
Goalie Kyle Mullins sports an 8.89 goals against average and a .559 save percentage over 13 starts.
 
Kasey Burst (19-25) is in his third season as University of Dubuque head men's lacrosse coach. The Red Men are 4-0 all-time against the Spartans.
 
WHAT'S NEXT

Carthage will conclude the 2018 regular season with a pair of road games. The Red Men will face Carroll University (Wis.) on Wednesday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m., and North Central College (Ill.) on Saturday, April 28 at 1:00 p.m.
