Three Doubleheaders on Tap for Lady Reds

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College softball team (12-10, 2-0 CCIW) will kick-off their week with a road bout against North Park University (DH) in Chicago, Ill. on Wednesday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m. The Lady Reds will continue their road schedule against UW-Whitewater (DH) on Thursday, April 12 at 2:30 p.m. before they return home for a showdown against Augustana College (DH) on Saturday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m.
 
The Lady Reds opened CCIW play with 2-0 and 13-1 victories over Elmhurst College on April 5, which resulted in freshman Naomi Alonzo's first-career CCIW Pitcher of the Week honor. Alonzo paces the Lady Reds pitching staff with 61 strikeouts over 57.0 innings of work, while Ellie Bernero sports a CCIW-leading 1.25 ERA. The Lady Reds lead all CCIW squads with four shutouts this season.
 
Alexandra Millett commands the Carthage offense with a .357 (25-70) batting average, while Jennifer Michuda follows with a .352 (19-54) mark.
 
ABOUT NORTH PARK UNIVERSITY (9-17, 1-3 CCIW)
 
The Vikings' 2-1 and 11-3 victories over Albion College on April 8 snapped a five-game losing skid. Sophomore Hayley Jackson leads the North Park offense with a .477 batting average (41-86), 10 doubles and a CCIW-leading four triples and 65 total bases. Ellie Manderfeld's .326 batting average (30-92) rounds out the Vikings' .300+ hitters.
 
Five players have contributed in the pitching circle for a North Park team that sports a 5.26 ERA, a .319 opponent batting average and 62 strikeouts over 167 2/3 innings this season.
 
Katie Anderson (30-109) is in her third season as North Park University head softball coach. The Lady Reds carry a 68-6 all-time record against the Vikings.
 
ABOUT UW-WHITEWATER (9-7, 2-0 WIAC)
 
The Warhawks, who will begin their week against UW-Stevens Point on April 11, opened their post-spring break schedule with 10-5 and 9-1 wins over UW-Stout on April 8. Their spring break consisted of 14 games in Clermont, Fla. on March 22-29, which ended in a 7-7 record.  UW-Whitewater's 7-7 mark in Florida dropped them out of the April 4 NFCA Division III Coaches' Poll after holding the #18 spot.
 
Julia Camardo commands the Warhawk pitching staff with a CCIW-leading 2.10 ERA over 36 2/3 innings, while teammate Bella Matthias leads the team with 34 strikeouts over 33 1/3 innings. UW-Whitewater's offense is led by Mallory Klotz's .440 (22-50) batting average, seven doubles, two home runs, 18 RBI's and 37 totals bases.
 
Brenda Volk (603-244-4) is in her 20th season as UW-Whitewater head softball coach. Carthage carries a 6-22 all-time record against the Warhawks.
 
ABOUT AUGUSTANA COLLEGE (ILL.) (15-7, 2-2 CCIW)
 
The Vikings opened their 2018 CCIW season with a 6-5 loss, and 2-0 victory against North Park University on March 30. Augustana continued the split trend against Elmhurst College on April 7, where they notched a 12-2 win, and a 5-2 loss.
 
Augustana (Ill.) has three .400+ hitters in their lineup in Molly Wrenn (.471), Dina Falk (.440) and Haley Ruch (.421). Alivia Phelps paces the Augustana pitchers with a 1.70 ERA over 24.2 innings of work while Kelcie Fredrickson leads the team with 26 strikeouts and 51 1/3 innings of work.
 
Kris Kistler (516-290-3) is in her 20th season as Augustana head softball coach. Carthage is 32-30 all-time against the Vikings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
 
The Lady Reds will face North Central (Ill.) (DH) in their final home games of 2018 on Tuesday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m. before they end the week at Carroll University on Thursday, April 19 at 3:00 p.m.
