TUCSON, Ariz. – The Carthage College Red Men swept North Central University of Minnesota on Thursday behind a pair of pitching gems by
Kevin Tibor and
Ian Maxeiner.
The wins move Carthage to 5-2 on the season, while the Rams fall to 0-5 in their first year as a program.
"We had two great outings from
Kevin Tibor and
Ian Maxeiner," said Augie Schmidt after the wins. "While we didn't hit the ball as well as we would have liked, getting two wins and the pitching we did was important. We needed a couple clean games and they really delivered. At this point in the trip we need pitchers to eat innings and they did just what we needed."
Carthage 7, North Central University 2
In game one, Tibor moved to 2-0 with a complete game, seven inning, performance. The senior allowed just two run son six hits and struck out five in the win.
Ryan Dalton delievered the biggest hit of the game in the second inning, blasting a second inning two-run home run to left to give the Red Men a 2-1 lead at the time. After that, the Red Men added five more unanswered runs off the bats of
Nick Pierce,
Ben Levicki,
Cody Phelps,
Joe Sisk and
Ryan Kramer.

In the second game of the day,
Ian Maxeiner had a dominant performance against the Rams in his first start of the season on short notice. Maxeiner moved to 1-0 after shutting down the Rams and limiting them to just five hits through six innings in the win.
Joe Sambucci came in and pitched a perfect relief inning in the seventh for the win.
At the plate
Ryan Dalton had the drove home three runs to lead the Red Men, while outfield partner
Colton Klein delivered three hits to lead all players, along with an RBI. Vince Scwartz and
Ben Levicki also drove in runs in the win.
The Red Men will continue play in Arizona on Friday with a regional matchup with Cornell College at the Kino Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 11:30 from the desert.
