Red Men Fall In CCIW Opener To Carroll, 5-4

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carthage College men's tennis team dropped their opening match of the 2018 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season on Friday, falling at the Moorland Tennis Club to Carroll University, 5-4.
 
The loss drops the Red Men to 5-9 on the season and to 0-1 in the CCIW, while the Pioneers move to 1-0 in the league and to 6-4 overall.
 
Herman Abban and Daniel Moore once again had perfect days for the Red Men in the loss, combining to go 3-0 on the day.  The number one doubles duo opened the day with a thrilling tiebreaker win over Peter Jaeger and Matt Michael.  The top two Red Men then followed that up with dominant straight set wins for Abban over Jaeger in one singles and Moore over Chayce Roecker in two singles.
 
Oscar Irazoque rounded out the wins for the Red Men on the day, defeating Brian Trefilek in straight sets in the number six singles match to tie the match at 4-4.  Unfortunately, the Pioneers would take the final match of the day to clinch the overall win.

2. Daniel Moore (CARTHAGE) def. Roecker, Chayce (CARROLL) 6-0, 6-1
3. Harrison, Joseph (CARROLL) def. Lukasz Jaworski (CARTHAGE) 6-2, 6-4
4. Michael, Matt (CARROLL) def. John Nykyforuk (CARTHAGE) 6-4, 6-2
5. Lamers, Quinten (CARROLL) def. Matt Krzewinski (CARTHAGE) 6-3, 6-4

Next up for the Red Men, Carthage will head to Rock Island next Friday to take on Augustana College on April 6th at 3:00 p.m.
