PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. – For the first time in the 45 years of Carthage College women's swimming and diving the Lady Reds can call themselves College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin champions!
The Lady Reds capped a dominant four-day CCIW Championships on Saturday with a final score of 940 points, snapping the streak of 13-straight runner up performances.
Wheaton was second with 654 points, followed by Illinois Wesleyan University with 649, Carroll University with 422, Augustana College with 296, North Central College with 269 and Millikin University with 157.
Following the meet, head coach
Beth DeLaRosby was named CCIW Women's Swimming Coach of the Year for the third time in her career and it is the eighth time a Lady Reds coach has received the honor.
Also recognized following the meet was
Hannah Miles, as the senior was named CCIW Female Outstanding Particiapant. For the week, Miles took first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, was a member of winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams and took second in the 200 individual medley.
Individual championships for the Lady Reds on the final day included golds from
Hannah Pearson in the 1650 free with an NCAA B mark [17:32.68],
Hannah Miles in the 200 breast with a B mark [2:21.72] and the 400 free relay team of
Becca Rutkowski,
Kate Hugo,
Sara Findley and
DeAnn Jones [3:31.04]. Pearson also set a new Carthage record in the 1000 during the swim.
Rounding out the medals for the Lady Reds on Saturday were
Kate Hugo in the 200 back with bronze [2:07.08] and Rutkowski with silver in the 100 free [51.94].
