North Park and Augustana Next For Lady Reds

FULL GAME NOTES

THE GAMES

  • The Carthage College women's basketball team (12-5, 5-3 CCIW) will take a four-game win streak into their home bout against North Park University on Wednesday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Reds are in pursuit of a season-sweep of Augustana College (12-5, 5-3 CCIW) on Saturday, January 27 at the Roy J. Carver Center in Rock Island, Ill. at 5:00 p.m.
  • North Park, who currently ranks second in the CCIW with a .279 (92-333) three-point field goal percentage defense, gave up 10 three-balls in their 84-59 loss to the Lady Reds on January 17. 
  • Shaylee Sloan, who paces the CCIW with 3.0 offensive rebounds per game, tallied 12 points and eight boards in North Park's loss to Carthage. Sloan's 153 rebounds, and 9.0 rebounds per game each rank third in the CCIW. She also leads all Vikings scorers with 8.0 points per game.
  • North Park is in the midst of a five-game losing skid. Their previous victory occurred in a 75-70 OT decision over Carroll University (Wis.) on January 3. The Vikings' victories this season have occurred in bunches as they own a pair of three-game win streaks. 
  • Izzy Anderson's 16.2 points per game paces Augustana, and is double the amount of anyone else on the roster. Anderson leads all CCIW players with 243 field goal attempts. Meghan Stovall and reigning CCIW Player of the Week Alexis Jones each sport 8.9 point per game for the Vikings.
  • Augustana, who faces Wheaton on January 24, currently owns a three-game win streak that includes decisions over Carroll (89-54), North Central (94-55) and North Park (77-51).
  • Augustana ranks second in the CCIW in rebounding offense (42.6), steals (11.88), turnover margin (5.71), offensive rebounds (14.06) and defensive rebounds (28.53).

THE COACHES

  • Amanda Crockett (102-139) is in her 10th season as North Park head women's basketball coach.
  • The 2017-18 season is Mark Beinborn's (61-82) sixth as Augustana head women's basketball coach. 

THE SERIES

The Lady Reds own a 58-20 all-time record against North Park, and a 39-28 mark with Augustana. 

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Lady Reds pushed their win streak to four games with an 84-59 victory over North Park on January 17, and a 74-51 decision over Millikin on January 20. 
  • Morgan Harris led Carthage with 18 points and 11 boards in the win over North Park. 
  • The Lady Reds notched 10 three-pointers against a Vikings team that led the CCIW in three-point field goal percentage at the time (.272). 
  • Sammie Woodward added 15 points and five rebounds in the 74-51 win over Millikin, her third start of the season. Harris added a season-high 15 boards in the contest for Carthage. 

THE LADY REDS ARE....

5-0 when they shoot .450 or better from the field.

9-0 when they hold opponents to less than 60 points.

NOTABLE NCAA/CCIW RANKINGS (1/23)

The Lady Reds lead the CCIW in defensive rebounds per game (30.0), fewest turnovers (237), three-point field goals made (141), three-point field goals per game (8.3) and three-point field goal percentage (.378). Bailey Gilbert leads the CCIW and ranks 18th in the country with a .439 three-point field goal percentage. Morgan Harris (579:00) and Gilbert (574:00) sit atop the CCIW in minutes played. 

CALLING ALL ALUMNI

Alumni Day for the Carthage College men's and women's basketball teams is set for Saturday, February 3, in conjunction with the doubleheader against Millikin at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The women's alumni game at Tarble Arena is set for 2:00 p.m., with the men's contest to follow at 3:00 p.m. The pizza reception will take place at the Todd Wehr Center after the alumni games. 

CLIMBING THE LADDER

The Lady Reds' 74-51 victory over Millikin gave head coach Tim Bernero 127 career CCIW victories. This put him in a tie for fourth place on the all-time CCIW wins list with Diane Schumacher (Augustana, 1987-99). 

KEEPING IT CLOSE

Four of the Lady Reds' five losses this season came within 10 points. The only exception occurred in a 72-59 loss to Wheaton College (Ill.) on January 4.

MILESTONE WATCH

Bailey Gilbert, who owns 161 career three pointers, is in fourth place on the Carthage all-time three-point field goal list. Haley Stercic (2011-14) holds the Lady Reds career record for most three-point field goals with 202. Gilbert's .399 (161-404) career three-point field goal percentage currently ranks fourth on the Lady Reds all-time list. Morgan Harris, who has 901 career points, currently ranks third on the Carthage all-time free-throw percentage list with a .790 (259-328) figure.
