Softball to Close Out Regular Season with Two Doubleheaders this Week

 


KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage Lady Reds softball team (23-13, 12-4 CCIW) will finish its regular season play this week with two doubleheaders. The Lady Reds will take on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 24 starting at 3 p.m. and will play Concordia University Chicago in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 25 at 3 p.m., also at home.
 
The Lady Reds currently bat .271 as a team. Kristine Herdegen leads the team with 22 runs batted in. On the mound, Amy Goldsmith has a 1.64 earned run average while Katie Herron is tied for 37th in Division III in strikeouts with 104.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team enters Tuesday's game off of a four-game winning streak, following two doubleheader sweeps against Carroll and UW-Oshkosh.
 
The Warhawks have three players batting .400+ in Haley Morelli (.470), Mallory Klotz (.435), and Amy Ricci (.410). Bella Matthia leads the team with 101.2 innings pitched and an earned run average of 1.38.
 
Brenda Volk is in her 19th season as head coach of the Warhawks. The Lady Reds are 6-20 all-time versus the Warhawks.
 
ABOUT CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO (21-13, 11-7 NACC)
 
The Concordia Cougars enter their game against Carthage winning seven of their last eight matches.
 
The Cougars have a total of seven players batting at least .300, including Melissa Balkema (.421) and Allison Kruk (.406). Marita Van Dyke leads the team with 28 runs batted in. Van Dyke also is the Cougars' leading pitcher with 95 innings pitched and a 3.02 earned run average.
 
Sarah O'Malley-Fischer is in her fifth season as head coach at Concordia. Carthage is 12-3 versus the Cougars all-time.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
 
The Lady Reds have already clinched a spot in the CCIW Softball Tournament with the number two seed. The tournament will begin on Friday, May 5, and conclude the next day.
