Four Games Left on Florida Slate This Week

 


KENOSHA, WIS.—Four games remain on the Carthage College softball team's (4-4, 0-0 CCIW) Florida trip. The Lady Reds will face Grinnell College (9:00 a.m. ET) and #13 UW-Eau Claire (11:00 a.m. ET) on Tuesday, March 21. Carthage will end their 10-game swing in Florida on Wednesday, March 22 against University of St. Thomas (9:00 a.m. ET) and Hendrix College (11:00 a.m. ET).  
 
The Lady Reds own a 2-4 mark six games into their Florida stand. Those victories include a 1-0 decision over Allegheny College on March 18, and a 7-2 margin over D'Youville College on March 19. Amy Goldsmith pitched 10 2/3 innings, struck out 11 batters and surrendered no hits throughout Carthage's two victories.
 
ABOUT GRINNELL COLLEGE (1-3, 0-0 MWC)
 
The Pioneers' registered a 5-2 victory over Oberlin College on March 20 after they began their 2017 season 0-3. Kayla Morrissey leads Grinnell offensively with a .357 (5-of-14) batting average. Lydia Stariha (.333, 4-of-12) rounds out the .300+ Grinnell hitters. The Pioneers are still in pursuit of their first home run of the season.
 
Pitcher Melissa Anderson carries a 1.02 ERA and three strikeouts in 13.2 innings of work for Grinnell this season. Next is Maggie Reems, who owns a 2.84 ERA on 12.1 innings pitched this season for the Pioneers.
 
The Lady Reds carry a 1-1 all-time record against Grinnell. Amanda Reckamp is in her seventh season as Grinnell head softball coach.
 
ABOUT #13 UW-EAU CLAIRE (10-2, 0-0 WIAC)
 
The Blugolds' blemishes this season occurred in a 5-4 loss to #15 St. Catherine University on March 4, and a 3-2 loss to Hope College on March 20. Carlie Christensen leads the UW-Eau Claire hitters with a .421 batting average and a .631 slugging percentage. Emily Pomykalski carries a .409 batting average with four doubles and one triple.
 
Lauren Blasczyk, who's pitched 37.0 innings this season, carries a 1.22 ERA and 26 strikeouts.
 
UW-Eau Claire will look to make a push for the NCAA Tournament after their 2016 season ended in a 2-1 loss to UW-Whitewater in the WIAC Championship round.
 
The Lady Reds hold a 2-1 all-time edge over the Blugolds. The 2017 season is Leslie Huntington's 17th as UW-Eau Claire head softball coach.
 
ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS (7-3, 0-0 MIAC)
 
The Tommies dropped out of the NFCA Division III Coaches' Poll on March 7 after being ranked #18 in the preseason.
 
St. Thomas is coming off a 43-8, 20-2 MIAC campaign last season that included the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament crown. The Tommies advanced to the 2016 NCAA Division III World Series, where they fell back-to-back games to Emory College (3-2) and St. John Fisher (2-0).
 
The Lady Reds and Tommies will square off for the first time ever. John Tschida (855-57-0, .845) is in his 17th season as St. Thomas head softball coach. He is currently the all-time leader among NCAA Division III softball coaches in winning percentage.
 
ABOUT HENDRIX COLLEGE (10-7, 4-5 SAA)
 
Karli Sewell leads the Warriors' sluggers with a .471 batting average (24-of-51), seven doubles, three triples and one home run this season. Sydney Ozersky carries a .455 batting average (25-of-55) with three triples and one home run.
 
Emily Stockalper paces the Hendrix pitching staff with a 2.47 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 68.0 innings of work.
 
The Warriors, a member of the Southern Athletic Conference, will face Carthage for the first time in school history.
 
Amy Weaver is in her 15th season as Warriors head softball coach.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
 
The Lady Reds will host Wisconsin Lutheran College (DH) at the Carthage Softball Field on Tuesday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m. Carthage will host St. Norbert College (DH) on Wednesday, March 29 at 3:00 p.m. before they open CCIW play at Elmhurst College (DH) on Saturday, April 1 at 12:00 p.m.
