Lady Reds Close 2016-17 Season at Carroll (Wis.)




FULL GAME NOTES

THE GAME

-The Carthage College women's basketball team (13-11, 7-8 CCIW) will end the 2016-17 season with a road tilt at Carroll University on Tuesday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m. Senior Mandy Hozzian will be playing her final game in a Lady Reds uniform. 

-Carroll University's (1-22, 1-14 CCIW) lone victory this season occurred in a 75-73 decision against Millikin on January 7. 

-Both Carthage and Carroll (Wis.) find themselves outside the CCIW Tournament picture. Fifth place and a .500 conference record is at stake for the Lady Reds on Tuesday. 

-Brittany Wald paces the Pioneers on both ends of the floor with 16.1 points per game, and 46 steals. 

-Morgan Lund's 98 free throws made this season for Carroll (Wis.) ranks third in the CCIW. 

THE COACHES

-The 2016-17 season is Lindsay Schultz' first as Carroll (Wis.) head women's basketball coach. Schultz was previously an assistant women's basketball coach at Bradley University.

THE SERIES

-The Lady Reds own a 27-25 all-time mark against Carroll (Wis.). Carthage defeated the Pioneers 82-69 at Tarble Arena on December 7. 

LAST TIME OUT

-The Lady Reds' 1-1 record last week included a 65-54 win over North Park on February 15, and a 67-66 loss to Millikin on February 18. 

-Carthage's contest at North Park marked their first road victory of this season. Bailey Gilbert (13), Morgan Harris (11), Maggie Berigan (10) and Morgan Vukovich (10) all tallied double figures in the contest.

-Millikin's free throw with 0:02 on the clock sealed Carthage's fate in a 67-66 loss. Rachel Szydlowski notched 16 points and 10 rebounds in the contest for her third double double of the season.

RECORD WATCH

Morgan Harris sits in first place on the Carthage College record book with an .808 (210-260) career free-throw percentage. 

CONFERENCE/NATIONAL RANKINGS

Harris leads the CCIW with 128 assists, 5.6 assists per game, and one triple double. Her 5.6 assists per game ranks 14th in NCAA Divison III.  Bailey Gilbert leads the CCIW with 52 three-point field goals made, and 2.17 three-point field goals per game. 

Carthage leads the CCIW, and ranks seventh in NCAA Division III with a .367 three-point field goal percentage. The Lady Reds are 14th in the country with 8.3 three-point field goals per game, and 19th with 199 three-point field goals made.

STATISTICAL LEADERS

Madie Kaelber paces the Lady Reds in scoring with 13.3 points per game while Bailey Gilbert leads the team with 52 three-point field goals made. Morgan Harris commands Carthage in rebounds per game (7.0) and assists per game (5.6). Maggie Berigan's .524 (43-of-82) field goal percentage, and Kalis's .430 (40-93) three-point field goal percentage lead the Lady Reds. 

HOME COOKING

Carthage finished the 2016-17 season 6-0 when they shot .450 percent or better from the field at home, 7-0 when they scored first at home,  4-0 on Wednesday home games and 4-0 when they had more steals than their opponent at home. 

OFF THE ROAD SCHNIDE

The Lady Reds' 65-54 advantage over North Park on February 15 marked their first road victory of the season.

BALANCED ATTACK

Nine different Lady Reds have scored in double figures, while four players have achieved a double double through 24 games of the 2016-17 season.

PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Lady Reds' 67-66 loss at Millikin on February 18 eliminated them from CCIW Tournament contention.

GO OUT IN STYLE

Hozzian, the lone senior on Carthage's roster, will be playing her final game as a Lady Red against the Pioneers.
