KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College women's tennis team won their first non-conference dual match of the season on Monday at the Smeds Tennis Center, as the Lady Reds defeated the Scarlet Hawks of the Illinois Institute of Technology, 7-2.
The win improves the Lady Reds 2017-18 record to 5-3 on the season following their third straight win, while IIT falls to 6-5 with the loss.
The Lady Reds opened the day with a pair of wins in the doubles competition by
Casey Frommer and
Natalie Favia in number-two doubles [8-0], and
Lauren Woznicki and
Hannah Haeberle in number-three doubles [8-1] to take an early 2-1 lead.
Carthage wrapped the match up with a strong performance in singles, as
Max Mella,
Angelica Emmanouil, Favia, Woznicki and
Maria Salerno claimed the singles two-through-six matches in straight sets.
