Lady Reds Welcome #24 Wheaton and IIT to Tarble Arena This Week


 

FULL GAME NOTES

THE GAME

-The Carthage College women's basketball team (10-8, 5-5 CCIW) will continue their four-game home swing against #24 Wheaton College (Ill.) on Wednesday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Reds will conclude their home stand against Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday, February 4 at 12:00 p.m.

-Wheaton College (15-3, 8-1 CCIW) will take a six-game win streak into their meeting with the Lady Reds. Among those victories was a 65-46 win over Carthage on January 21. 

-The Thunder rank nationally in assist/turnover ratio (7th, 1.25), assists per game (8th, 18.0), defensive rebounds per game (sixth, 32) and scoring offense (ninth, 78.9).

-Wheaton's Katie McDaniels leads the CCIW with 21.5 points per game, 101 free throws made, 130 free throw attempts and 365 total points. 

-Illinois Institute of Technology will take an 0-14 record into their bout against Maranatha Baptist University on January 31. The Scarlet Hawks will also face Trine University on Wednesday, January 1. 

-Kaylee Wicka leads Illinois Institute of Technology with 11.8 points, 1.5 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. 

THE COACHES

-The 2016-17 season is Kent Madsen's sixth as Wheaton College (Ill.) head women's basketball coach.

-Usha Gilmore is in her fourth season as Illinois Institute of Technology head women's basketball coach. Gilmore arrived to the Scarlet Hawks following two seasons as assistant coach at the University of Illinois. 

THE SERIES

-The Lady Reds own a 26-50 all-time mark against Wheaton College. This includes a 65-46 loss to the Thunder on January 21.

-Carthage and Illinois Institute of Technology will square off for the first time.

LAST TIME OUT

-The Lady Reds opened their four-game home swing with a 106-95 win over North Central (Ill.) on January 25, and a 73-62 victory over Augustana College (Ill.) on January 28.

-Rachel Szydlowski paced Carthage with 26.0 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game, five blocks and 10 free throws made throughout the two-game span. This includes a career high 32 points against North Central, and a double double 20 points, 13 rebounds against Augustana.

-Morgan Harris notched her third double double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds against North Central. 

-The pair of victories put Carthage in sole possession of fifth place in the CCIW.
 

RECORD WATCH

Harris sits in first place on the Carthage College record book with an .813 (205-252) career free-throw percentage. Kalis's .432 (32-74) three-point field goal percentage this season ranks 11th on the Carthage all-time single-season list.

CONFERENCE/NATIONAL RANKINGS

Morgan Harris leads the CCIW with 102 assists, 5.7 assists per game, and one triple double. Bailey Gilbert leads the CCIW with 2.28 three-point field goals per game, and ranks second with a .363 three-point field goal percentage and 41 three-point field goals made. 

Carthage ranks 11th in NCAA Division III with a .365 three-point percentage, 13th with 8.3 three-point field goals per game, and 18th with 150 three-point field goals made. 

STATISTICAL LEADERS

Madie Kaelber paces the Lady Reds in scoring with 13.5 points per game. Bailey Gilbert paces the team with 41 three-point field goals made. Morgan Harris leads Carthage in rebounds per game (7.2), assists per game (5.7) and steals per game (1.3). Maggie Berigan's .558 (29-of-52) field goal percentage and Kalis's .432 three-point field goal percentage lead the Lady Reds. 

CALLING ALL ALUMNI

Alumni Day for both the Red Men and Lady Reds basketball teams is set for Saturday, February 11 at Tarble Arena. The women's alumni game will take place at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 2:00 p.m. A pizza reception will take place from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Center. The Red Men and Lady Reds will host Illinois Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

HOME COOKING

-Carthage is 5-0 when shooting .450 percent or better from the field at home.

-The Lady Reds are 5-0 when outrebounding opponents at home. 

-Carthage is 5-0 when scoring first at home. 

-The Lady Reds are 3-0 on Wednesday home games. 

ROAD WOES

The Lady Reds are in pursuit of their first true-road victory of the 2016-17 season.

CAREER/SEASON-HIGHS

Szydlowski (32 points, 11 field goals, 19 field goal attempts, 10 free throws, 14 free throw attempts, four assists vs. North Central; 1/25/17), Madie Kaelber (seven free throw attempts vs North Central; 1/25/17), Autumn Kalis (two blocks vs. Augustana; 1/28/17) and Berigan (10 points, five field goals, 17 minutes vs. Augustana; 1/28/17. Five blocks vs. North Central; 1/25/17) tallied career-highs for the Lady Reds last week. 

BALANCED ATTACK

Nine different Lady Reds have scored in double figures, while four players have achieved a double double through 18 games of the 2016-17 season.
