Lady Reds Travel to North Central (Ill.) and Wheaton This Week

FULL GAME NOTES

THE GAME

-The Carthage College women's basketball team will travel to North Central College (Ill.) on Wednesday, January 18 for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Lady Reds will conclude their three-game road tilt at Wheaton College on Saturday, January 21 at 5:00 p.m.

-The Cardinals (9-6, 3-3 CCIW), who are in a tie for fifth place with Carthage in the CCIW standings, are coming off an 86-79 loss to Augustana College on January 11.

-Mayson Whipple leads the Cardinals with 12.3 points per game and 54 assists.

-North Central ranks first in NCAA Division III with 1,386 total points, 785 rebounds, 719 three-point field goal attempts, 206 three-point field goals made and 13.7 three-point field goals per game. 

-Wheaton College (11-3, 5-1 CCIW) will enter their bout with North Park University on Wednesday having won five-of-six games. The Thunder fell out of the D3Hoops.com Top 25 Coaches' Poll after a 66-65 loss to Illinois Wesleyan on January 7. The Thunder received 36 votes on the D3Hoops.com Poll, and three on the WBCA Coaches' Poll this week. 

-Katie McDaniels' 20.9 points per game leads the Thunder, and ranks 20th among all NCAA Division III women's basketball players.

THE COACHES

-Michelle Roof is in her seventh season as North Central College head women's basketball coach. Roof previously spent five seasons as the head women's basketball coach at Aurora University.

-The 2016-17 season is Kent Madsen's sixth as Wheaton College head women's basketball coach. Madsen also serves as Wheaton's assistant athletic director. 

THE SERIES

-The Lady Reds own a 48-25 all-time record against North Central.

-Carthage carries a 26-49 all-time mark against Wheaton College.

LAST TIME OUT

-The Lady Reds fell to Illinois Wesleyan University 77-50 on January 14.

-Madie Kaelber paced Carthage with 16 points and a career-high five assists in the game. Rachel Szydlowski added 13 points in the game for the Lady Reds.

SETTING THE TONE

Carthage owns a 5-0 record this season when they score first. 

RECORD WATCH

Morgan Harris sits in first place on the Carthage College record book with an .817 (196-240) career free-throw percentage. 

CONFERENCE/NATIONAL RANKINGS

Harris leads the CCIW with 74 assists, 5.3 assists per game, and one triple double. Bailey Gilbert paces the CCIW with 2.29 three-point field goals per game. The Lady Reds rank second in the CCIW, and 13th in NCAA Division III with 8.5 three-point field goals made per game. Carthage's .368 three-point field goal percentage ranks 14th among NCAA Division III women's basketball teams. 

STATISTICAL LEADERS

Madie Kaelber paces the Lady Reds in scoring with 13.3 points per game. Harris leads Carthage in rebounds per game (6.6), assists per game (5.3) and steals per game (1.5). Monica Masini's .542 (32-of-59) field goal percentage, Autumn Kalis's .441 three-point field goal percentage and Gilbert's 32 three-point field goals made lead the team. 

CALLING ALL ALUMNI

Alumni Day for both the Red Men and Lady Reds basketball teams is set for Saturday, February 11 at Tarble Arena. The women's alumni game will take place at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 2:00 p.m. A pizza reception will take place from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Center. The Red Men and Lady Reds will host Illinois Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

SEASON-HIGHS

Szydlowski (11 rebounds vs. Illinois Wesleyan), Kaelber (five assists vs. Illinois Wesleyan), Gilbert (13 field goal attempts vs. Illinois Wesleyan) and Maggie Berigan (seven points vs. Illinois Wesleyan) tallied season-highs for the Lady Reds last week. 

BALANCED ATTACK

Eight different Lady Reds have scored in double figures through 14 games of the 2016-17 season.
