WHEATON, Ill. – The top-seeded Carthage College Red Men advanced to Saturday's championship match of the 2016 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Tennis Championship after cruising past Elmhurst for the second time in a week with a decisive 5-0 victory.
The Red Men [20-6] swept the doubles competition to take a commanding 3-0 lead with
Pawel Jaworski and
Chris Conley winning 8-6 in the one-doubles over Chris Harrison and Quinn Jennings;
Alex Boomgarden and
Ryan Jump edging out the Alex Abbuhl and Ricardo Franco, 9-7; and
Lukasz Jaworski and
Fordy Leipold made quick work of Kyle Endicott and Justin Dewalder, 9-3.
The Red Men then deleivered the final blow to the Bluejays with straight-set wins by Boomgarden in the singles-one [6-1, 6-3] and P. Jaworski in the singles-three matches [6-4, 6-4] to take the match.
With the 5-0 victory in hand, the singles matches of
Alex Ferruzzi, Jump, Conley and L. Jaworski went unfinished.
Carthage will await their championship match opponent as the #2 Wheaton Thunder take on the #3 Augustana Vikings at approximately 3:00 PM Friday.
Saturday's championship will take place at 1:00 PM.
