Red Men Claim CCIW Championships Top-Seed With Win Wednesday Over Elmhurst

RACINE, Wis. – The Carthage College men's tennis squad didn't let moving indoors slow them down as the Red Men cruised to an 8-1 win at the Racine Tennis Center over Elmhurst College Wednesday afternoon to cap-off a perfect College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season and earn the top-seed in next weekend's CCIW Men's Tennis Championships.

The win propels the #16 regionally ranked Red Men to 19-6 on the year in dual meets and 6-0 in the CCIW, while dropping the Bluejays to 3-3 in the conference and 6-11 overall.

Carthage opened the night with a sweep of the doubles matches starting with Pawel Jaworski and Chris Conley defeating Chris Harrison and Quinn Jennings, 9-7, in the one-doubles.  Alex Boomgarden and Ryan Jump, along with Lukasz Jaworski and Fordy Leipold followed suit in their respective doubles two and three matches, each claiming an 8-4 victory.

Carthage would go up 4-0 in the match as P. Jaworski took his three-singles match over Alex Abbuhl, 7-5, 6-2.  The lone slip-up by the Red Men came in the two-singles match as Jump was bested by Jennings to give a slim glimmer of hope to the Bluejays.

However Boomgarden, Conley, L. Jaworski and Alex Ferruzzi went unfazed the rest of the way for the Red Men, defeating Harrison, Kyle Endicott, Ricardo Franco and Justin Delawder respectively, to claim the convincing victory.

With the number-one seed in the upcoming Men's Tennis Championship the Red Men have earned a first round bye in the tournament which will take place May 5th-7th at the Centre Court Athletic Club hosted by Wheaton College.  Carthage will face the winner of the four-five matchup that currently would feature the Bluejays vs. Millikin University.  However with two matches remaining in the CCIW to be played Friday and Saturday shifting in the seeding may take place.
