Lady Reds Enter Home Stretch of 2016 Regular Season

 
KENOSHA, WIS.—Three games remain on the Carthage College softball team's schedule this season. That three-game swing will begin with a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Chicago on Monday, April 25 at 3:00 p.m. The Lady Reds will close the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, April 27 in a doubleheader against Elmhurst College at 3:00 p.m. Carthage will travel to St. Norbert College for their final tilt of the 2016 season on Friday, April 29. That doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
 
Playoff implications lie on the Lady Red's contest with Elmhurst College on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Reds, who currently own a 5-7 CCIW record, are currently in a three-way tie with Augustana College and North Park for the final playoff spot. North Central is slightly ahead of that pack with a 5-3 CCIW record while Wheaton College sits in second place with a 10-4 CCIW record. #11 Illinois Wesleyan currently sits in the CCIW driver's seat with a 10-2 conference record.
 
ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO (19-6)
 
The Maroons have won four of their last five games. Among those victories is a 2-1 decision over North Central College on April 16. Kathleen Kohm leads the University of Chicago sluggers with a .394 batting average that includes eight doubles and 15 RBI.
 
A platoon of pitchers have seen time on the pitching rubber for the Maroons. Molly Moran commands that staff with a 1.86 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 60.1 innings pitched. Jordan Poole has also tallied 61 strikeouts on the season for the Maroons.
 
Ruth Kmak is in her 17th season as University of Chicago head softball coach.
 
ABOUT ELMHURST COLLEGE (16-16, 3-7 CCIW)
 
The Bluejays are coming off 11-3 and 9-1 wins over Blackburn College on April 24. Elmhurst currently trails the Lady Reds by a pair of games in the CCIW standings, and find themselves on the outside looking in on the playoff picture.
 
Bri Getzloff carries a .440 batting average, which leads the Bluejay sluggers. Brianna Thompson rounds out the Elmhurst .400 plus hitters with a .423 batting average that includes three home runs and 10 doubles.
 
Stefanie Sanidas carries 75 strikeouts in 114.1 innings of work on the pitching rubber for the Bluejays.
 
The 2016 season is Mike Paulo's fourth as Elmhurst College head softball coach.
 
ABOUT ST. NORBERT COLLEGE (5-23, 5-13 MWC)
 
The Green Knights are led by Emily Laufer, who owns a .329 batting average with five home and 21 RBI. Tia Danforth rounds out the Green Knight .300 plus sluggers. She sports a .319 batting average with five home runs.
 
Lexi LeCalsey has logged 88.2 innings of work on the pitching rubber for the Green Knights this season. She carries a 3.08 ERA, and 65 strikeouts.
 
The Green Knights are currently on a three-game win streak. This includes a 20-1 and 9-7 sweep over Knox College on April 24, and a 6-5 win over Beloit College on April 23.
 
JoAnn Krueger is in her 18th season as St. Norbert College head softball coach.
 
CARTHAGE (16-16, 5-7 CCIW)
 
The Lady Reds will lean on their three leading hitters to help push them into the CCIW playoffs. Hailey Rothstein leads the way with a .380 batting average, seven home runs and 36 RBI. Kristine Herdegen isn't far behind, she owns a .376 batting average with four home runs and 18 RBI. Darian Pelsor carries a .364 batting average, and is second on the team with 23 RBI.
 
Katie Herron commands the Carthage pitching staff with a 2.75 ERA and 136 strikeouts in 89.0 innings of work.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
 
Pending Wednesday's results with Elmhurst, the Lady Reds will compete in the 2016 CCIW Softball Tournament. The event, hosted by the #1 seed, will take place Friday May 6, and Saturday May 7.
