ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Men's tennis improved to 2-0 in the College Confrernce of Illinois and Wisconsin Saturday, as Carthage College went into Augustana College and came out with convincing 7-2 victory over the Vikings.

Now, 2-0 in the CCIW and 14-6 overall, the 16th regionally ranked Red Men dropped Augustana, 18th in the region, to 7-8 and 0-1 in the CCIW.

Carthage opened the day behind the eight-ball as the Red Men dropped two-of-three doubles matches to fall behind 2-1, as
Alex Boomgarden and
Ryan Jump won the number-two doubles match 8-0 over Connor Woolf and Jack Morkin.

Thing turned abruptly in the Red Men's favor however, as Carthage cruised the rest of the way, winning all six of the singles matches to conclude the day's action. Jump [6-4, 6-0], along with
Chris Conley,
Lukasz Jaworski and
Alex Ferruzzi each won their respective singles matches in straight sets, with Ferruzzi's win clinching the match in favor of the Red Men.

Boomgarden and
Pawel Jaworski added on to the Vikings' misery as they each won their singles matches in three sets, with Alex winning [6-3, 3-6, 6-3]Â and Pawel rebounding from a first set loss to defeat Patrick Lenz [6-7, 6-0, 6-1].

The Red Men now will return home for a doubleheader Saturday, April 16th as Carthage hosts Wheaton College and Millikin University at Smeds Tennis Center in a pair of CCIW matches. The action is slated to start at 12:00 PM when the Red Men face Wheaton followed by Millikin at 4:00 PM.
