FERRUM, VA.—The Carthage College women's lacrosse team faced Ferrum College in the front end of a two-game swing in Virginia on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Reds have alternated wins and losses so far this season and a victory over the Panthers would keep that trend alive.

The Lady Reds jumped on the Panthers in the opening six minutes, which helped them secure a 20-7 victory.

Maddie Griffin led all scorers in the game with six goals and a pair of assists for eight points, but it was
Mackenzie Day who set the tone. Day notched the games' first three goals in the opening 2:09 to give the Lady Reds a 3-0 lead.

Griffin found her zone for the Lady Reds when a Panther yellow card with 24:20 left in the first half gave her a free position shot, which she converted on to make the score 4-0.

The Panthers responded when Audrey Ramsey registered a goal at the 21:49 mark of the first half to narrow the margin to 4-1. Griffin closed the first half with two more goals to help the Lady Reds triple the Panthers in the score column at 9-3.

The second half began much like the first half. Day,
Kendell Santin and
Megan McNamara made up the trio of Lady Reds who scored during the opening 3:30 of the second half to push their lead to 12-3.

Strong beginnings to the first and second half put the nail in the coffin and secured a 20-7 victory for the Lady Reds.

Carthage outshot the Panthers 32-18 in the contest and finished 9-of-10 on clear attempts.

Taylor Sopron was the winning goalkeeper for the Lady Reds. She tallied seven saves in 45:23 of action before
Maggie Allen relieved her for the final 14:37. Graceanne Gershner registered nine saves in a complete game effort for the Panthers.

The Lady Reds will wrap up their east coast road trip at Randolph College on Saturday, March 26. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m. (ET).Â
