KENOSHA, WIS.—Team and individual success has themed the Carthage College women's lacrosse team two games into the 2016 season. As a team, the Lady Reds lead the CCIW in free position (.636) and save percentage (.516). Goalkeeper Taylor Sorpron paces the CCIW with a .556 save percentage while
Kara Vana holds that same distinction with 2.00 free position goals per game.

As for the Adrian College Bulldogs, a 16-game losing skid that dates back to the 2014 season was looming over their head. The Lady Reds darkened that cloud with a 12-6 victory over the Bulldogs at Art Keller Field on Saturday afternoon.

Carthage improves to 2-1, 0-0 CCIW while the Bulldogs fall to 0-4, 0-0 MIAA and see their losing skid hit 17 games.

A well-balanced Lady Reds attack propelled them to a 4-0 lead with 23:21 left in the first half.

Greigh Hoeft,
Elizabeth Wittenborg and
Bryanna Barrera each tallied a goal for the Lady Reds in the game's opening 10 minutes.

Those four goals provoked Adrian College to get their feet from underneath them and cut the Lady Red lead in half with 18:39 left in the first half, making the score 4-2.

Wittenborg drew a foul and converted on a free position goal with 17:17 left in the first half to extend the Carthage lead to 5-2. Mussell tallied her second goal of the game when she fired a shot from the circle at the 6:59 mark of the first half to push the Lady Red lead to 6-2.

Alex Branum and Anniika Nuler each tallied a goal for Adrian College to close the first frame. This narrowed the Lady Red lead to 6-4 at halftime.Â

Margaret Krause opened the second half with a goal for the Bulldogs to make the score 6-5 at the 29:21 mark, but thats as close as they got. Leading scorer
Kara Vana notched two of the Lady Red six-second half goals to secure a 12-6 victory.
Jenna Carter from Adrian College was the only penalized player in the game. She was flagged for a check to the head at the 13:47 mark of the second half.Â

Taylor Sopron earned the decision in net for Carthage with three saves in a complete game effort.

The Lady Reds will return to Art Keller Field on Wednesday, March 16 against Beloit College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
