Lady Reds Return Home to Face Coe College and University of Chicago

FULL GAME NOTES

THE GAME

-The Carthage College women's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 CCIW) will open the home portion of their 2016-17 schedule on Tuesday, November 22 at 5:00 p.m. against Coe College. The Lady Reds will close their two-game home stand against University of Chicago on Sunday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m.

-The Coe College Kohawks (1-0, 0-0 IIAC) opened their 2016-17 campaign with a 71-60 victory over NAIA member Iowa Wesleyan College on November 15. Jenna Lehman led Coe with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the game.

-The Kohawks are coming off a 15-11, 5-9 IIAC season in 2015-16.

-The University of Chicago Maroons will take a 2-0 record into their game with Carroll (Wis.) on Tuesday, November 22. The Maroons opened their 2016-17 season with a 64-36 win over #25 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on November 18, and a 113-83 victory over Hanover College on November 19.

-Taylor Lake currently leads the Chicago scoring attack with 14.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.  She also carries three assists and two steals. 

-The Maroons ended their 2015-16 season with a 16-9, 8-6 UAA record.

THE COACHES

-The 2016-17 season marks Nate Oakland's second as Coe College head women's basketball coach. He arrived at Coe following four seasons as Wartburg College's assistant coach.

-Carissa Sain Knoche is in her fifth season as University of Chicago head women's basketball coach. 

THE SERIES

-The Lady Reds own a 4-3 all-time record against Coe College. This includes a 71-61 loss to the Kohawks in their last meeting on December 9, 2015.

-Carthage carries an 8-8 all-time mark against University of Chicago. The Lady Reds defeated the Maroons 64-57 in their prior meeting on November 29, 2015.

LAST TIME OUT

-The Lady Reds are in the midst of a two-game win streak after defeating #12 UW-River Falls 74-60 on November 19, and Bethel University 70-61 on November 18. Morgan Harris tallied a career-high 38 points in Carthage's 81-77 loss to Loras College on November 15.

-Mandy Hozzian notched a career-high 15 points, five three-point field goals and three steals in the Lady Red's 74-60 victory over UW-River Falls.

-As a team, Carthage tallied 14 three-point field goals in their win against UW-River Falls. The record for most team three-point field goals in a game was 15 against Lawrence University on February 25, 1997.

-Madie Kaelber tallied a season-high 19 points in Carthage's 74-60 win over UW-River Falls. 


EIGHT IS GREAT

Anna Eksten, Madie Kaelber, Calli Linse, Autumn Kalis, Synclaire Lunardi, Maggie Berigan, Emmily Zinkiewicz and Gabby Butkute represent the eight freshman on the Carthage College roster. 

RECORD WATCH

Harris moves into first place on the Carthage College record book with an .808 (168-208) career free-throw percentage. 

CONFERENCE RANKINGS

Harris is tied for first in the CCIW with 3.00 three-point field goals made per game, and ranks second in the CCIW 24.4 points per game and 5.00 assists per game this season. She also ranks fifth in the conference with 3.33 steals per game while pacing the conference with 35.00 minutes played per game this season. 

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

Bethel University, Stevenson University and Allegheny College make up the trio of opponents on the 2016-17 slate the Lady Reds have never faced. The Lady Reds defeated Bethel University 70-61 on November 18. 

DEJA VU???

The Lady Reds open the home portion of their schedule against Coe College on November 22. The last time Carthage played their first home game on November 22 was in 2014, when they defeated UW-La Crosse 62-41.

LORAS TRACK RECORD

Harris registered a career-high 38 points in the Lady Red's 81-77 loss to Loras College on November 15, which marks her second career 30-point contest. She tallied 30 points in Carthage's 64-58 win over Loras College on November 18, 2015. 

CAREER-HIGHS

Rachel Szydlowski (three steals vs. UW-River Falls, 11/19/16) and Hozzian (15 points, five three-point field goals, three steals vs. 11/19/16) also notched career-highs for the Lady Reds throughout their opening three-games of the season. 
 

SPANNING THE BORDERS

The 2016-17 Lady Reds roster spans four states (Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.)
