CHICAGO, Ill. – The Carthage College Lady Reds bounced back Monday from a tough loss on Saturday with a convincing win in Chicago over North Park University, topping the Vikings, 8-1, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin showdown.
The win sends the Lady Reds to 5-3 in dual meets in 2016 and 4-2 in the CCIW, while dropping North Park to 2-10 on the year and 0-6 in conference play.
Carthage opened the day going 3-0 in doubles as the Lady Reds swept the Vikings in doubles competition. Carthage never dropped more than four sets in the doubles matches as
Max Mella and
Angelica Emmanouil won 8-3,
Casey Frommer and
Kristen Kalinka won 8-4 and
Eliza Barter and
Natalie Favia won 8-2.
The Lady Reds continued their dominance into the singles competition taking five of six matches in straight sets. Frommer defeated Jasmine Madrid, 6-0, 6-1; Emmanouil topped Justine DeBosscher, 6-0, 6-3; Kalinka topped Juvi Vinluan, 6-0, 6-1; Barter knocked off Marlee McCabe, 6-1, 6-0; and Favia was too much for McKenzie Harrison, 6-1, 6-0.
Carthage will now return home for a pair of CCIW matches to determine their CCIW Women's Tennis Championship seeding as the Lady Reds will face the Cardinals of North Central College and the Big Blue of Millikin University on Saturday, October 15th at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively.
