The Carthage College men's track and field team (35-9 outdoor record) finished third at the Friday-Saturday, May 1-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Wheaton College's McCully Stadium in Wheaton, Ill.
 
North Central College won its 37th outdoor title with 245.50 points, followed by Augustana College (Ill.) second at 228, Carthage third at 123, Wheaton (Ill.) fourth at 85, Illinois Wesleyan University fifth at 82, North Park University sixth at 36.50, Millikin University seventh at 31 and Elmhurst College eighth with 24 points.
 
Carthage's Branden Miller (Sr., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North), the "field athlete of the year," won both the hammer throw (189-8) and the shot put (53-1 ¾), while finishing second in the discus (154-3).  Mark Balmes (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) won the discus (166-1) and took third in the shot put (52-2 ¾).  Brad Krueger (Fr., Marshfield, Wis.) was second in the decathlon (6,089 points), as was Shawntrel Garner (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) in the long jump (22-4 ¼). 

Calvin Callahan (Sr., Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence) was third in the pole vault (14-11), as was David Goodalis (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Central) in the hammer throw (170-4) and Jonathan Bell (Fr., DeKalb, Ill.) in the discus (150-10).

Carthage will split squads this weekend.  Part of the team will travel to Naperville, Ill., on Thursday-Friday, May 7-8 for the North Central College "Dr. Keeler Invitational" at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, starting at 3 p.m. both days.  The remainder of the squad travels to La Crosse, Wis., for the Saturday, May 8 Wisconsin-La Crosse "Eagle Open" at Roger Harring Stadium
