Box ScoreThe Carthage College men's tennis team (18-6, 6-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin), ranked No. 16 in the April 30 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division III Central Region poll, blanked Elmhurst College (9-10, 2-4 CCIW) in a CCIW Men's Tennois Championship semifinal match on Friday, May 1, at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of
Pawel Jaworski (So., Deerfield, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson) and
Jordan Verbauwhede (Jr., Whitelawe, Wis./Manitowoc-Lincoln, 19-6) defeated the Bluejay's pair of Chris Harrison and Luke Tanaka, 8-4. The duo of
Alex Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area) and
Chris Conley (Jr., Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield Academy, 19-5) were also successful at No. 2 doubles, downing Elmhurst 8-1. The No. 3 doubles team of
Ryan Jump (Jr., Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) and
Alex Ferruzzi (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central, 10-5) edged out the Bluejays 9-8(6).

Boomgarden (22-5) won his match at No. 2 singles, defeating Elmhurst's Quinn Jennings 6-3, 6-4. Conley (23-6) also won his match at No. 5 singles, defeating Alex Abbuhl 6-1, 6-2. Jaworski (14-11) at No. 1 singles, Jump (20-3) at No. 3 singles, Verbauwhede (19-9) at No. 4 singles, and Ferruzzi (18-8) at No. 6 singles all left their matches uncompleted.

The Red Men advance to the championship match, where they will take on Augustana College (Ill., 14-12) at Noon on Saturday, May 2. Â Augustana (Ill.) defeated Wheaton College (Ill., 14-6, 5-1 CCIW), 5-4, in the other semifinal match to advance to the finals. Â Saturday's winner wins the conference title and the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Men's Championship.
