Results

The Carthage College men's track and field team (4-0 outdoor record) opened its outdoor season by winning the Friday, April 3 Ashford University "Spring Classic" at Ashford's South Campus facility in Clinton, Iowa.
 
Carthage won the five-team event with 207 points, followed by Monmouth College second at 165, Ashford third at 67, Knox College fourth at 52 and Rockford College fifth with 18 points.
 
Carthage's Branden Miller (Sr., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) won three events, taking first place both the shot put (51-11 ¼), the hammer throw (173-11) and the javelin (159-1), while taking second in the discus (152-1).  Camren Howard (Fr., Olympia Fields, Ill./Chicago Heights-Marian Catholic) won the 5,000-meter run (15:57.80), and Mark Balmes (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) won the discus (160-2).  David Goodalis (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Central) was second in both the shot put (48-1 ¼) and the hammer throw (164-7).  Shawntrel Garner (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) was second in the 100-meter dash (11.21), as was Matt August (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Frankfort--Lincoln-Way East) in the 5,000-meter run (16:16.62), Brian Graham in the high jump (5-7), Ron Banks (Sr., Waukegan, Ill.) in the long jump (19-11 ¾) and John Morton (Jr., Wilmette, Ill./Winnetka-New Trier) in the triple jump (41-5).
 
The Red Men will split squads next weekend, sending part of the team to the Thursday-Saturday, April 9-11 Chicagoland Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Lewis University Stadium in Romeoville, Ill.  The rest of the team travels to Lisle, Ill., on Saturday, April 11 for the Benedictine University (Ill.) "Eagle Invitational" at the Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
