Box Score 2 The Carthage College softball team (12-22, 4-10 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) was swept by CCIW-opponent Millikin University (16-22, 5-9 CCIW), 5-2 and 4-2, on Monday, April 27 at the Carthage Softball Field in Kenosha, Wis.
The twinbill ended Carthage's season, and the loss in the first game eliminated the Lady Reds from qualifying for this year's CCIW Softball Tournament. Since coach
Amy Gillmore took over in 1998, the Lady Reds have missed qualifying for the tournament only two other times, with both her 2002 and 2006 teams also not reaching the playoffs.
In the opener, Millikin jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a three-run homer by Alexis Dockins. Carthage got a run back in the bottom half on an RBI-single by
Tiffani Palmatier. The Big Blue's Alyssa Voegele hit a two-run home run in the fifth to up the lead to 5-1. An RBI-single by
Olivia Scott in the bottom of the fifth made it a 5-2 contest and closed out the scoring
Cathy Lebryk (8-12) was the winning pitcher for Millikin, and she limited Carthage to a pair of runs on seven hits, two walks and six strikeouts over seven innings.
Darian Pelsor (So., Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook, 3-5) took the loss and gave up five runs on 11 hits and a walk over five innings.

In the nightcap, Carthage took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when

Sam Phelps was credited with an RBI-triple on a fly ball that fell in when the Big Blue leftfielder collided with her teammate in center. That lead was short-lived, as Millikin scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-2 advantage that held up.
