The Carthage women's tennis team (14-1, 7-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) suffered its first loss of the season, 8-1, to Colorado Mesa University (9-5) at Lake Cane in Orlando, Fla.
 
Haleigh McPeek (Sr., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 16-5) fell to the Maverick's Natalie Martin, the latter winning 6-4, 1-6, 10-6. Max Mella (Fr., Warren, Ill./Warren Township, 14-6) was a winner at No. 2 singles, defeating Kristyn Wykert 7-6(2), 6-4. Abbi Howell (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest, 18-7) fell at No. 3 singles, as did Taylor Bolyard (Fr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 17-4) at No. 4 singles, Kristen Kalinka (So., Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph, 6-4) at No. 5 singles, and Kirsten Peterson (Jr., Hastings, Minn./Hastings, 18-5) at No. 6 singles.
 
The No. 1 doubles tandem of McPeek and Mella (20-5) fell to Mesa's duo of Wykert and Rachel McLaughlin, the latter winning 8-5. The duo of Bolyard and Kalinka (20-4) also lost their match at No. 2 doubles, as did the pair of Howell and Peterson (4-1) at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Lady Reds take on Hamline University on Friday, March 27, at 9 a.m. at Sanlando Park in Orlando, Florida.
