ResultsThe Carthage College men's track and field team (46-16-1 indoor record) finished third at the Friday-Saturday, Feb. 27-28 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center fieldhouse in Kenosha, Wis.
North Central College won its 15th indoor title with 215.50 points, followed by Augustana College (Ill.) second at 142.50,Carthage third at 97.50, Wheaton College (Ill.) fourth at 79, Illinois Wesleyan University fifth at 41, Millikin University sixth at 39, Elmhurst College seventh at 27 and North Park University eighth with 20.50 points.
Carthage's
Branden Miller (Sr., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) won both the shot put (54-4 ½) and the weight throw (56-4).
Shawntrel Garner (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) was second in the long jump (22-4 ½), as was
Brad Krueger (Fr., Marshfield, Wis.) in the heptathlon (4,675 points).
Mike Brown (Sr., St. Charles, Ill./East) finished third in both the 55-meter dash (6.52) and the 200-meter dash (22.52).
David Goodalis (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Central) was third in the weight throw (54-0 ¾) and fourth in the shot put (51-9 ¼), while
Mark Balmes (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) was third in the shot put (53-4 ¼) and fourth in the weight throw (52-2 ¾).
Gus Shipp (Fr., Northbrook, Ill./Glenview-Glenbrook South) took fifth place in the 55-meter hurdles (7.94).
The Red Men play host to the Carthage "Gill Athletics Final Qualifier" on Friday, March 6, also at the Tarble fieldhouse, beginning at 4 p.m.
