ResultsThe Carthage College men's track and field team (17-5 indoor record) finished second at the Friday, Jan. 30 Carthage "Tadd Metzger Invitational" at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center in Kenosha, Wis. Wisconsin-Milwaukee won the eight-team event with 139 points, four and one-half points ahead of second-place Carthage at 132.50. Illinois-Chicago was third at 112, followed by Aurora University fourth at 96, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 81, Carroll University (Wis.) sixth at 53, Wisconsin-Parkside seventh at 41 and Concordia University (Wis.) eighth with 18.50 points.
The Red Men went one-two-three in the shot put, with
Mark Balmes (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) winning the event (52-10),
Branden Miller (Sr., Winfield, Ill./Wheaton-North) taking second (52-10) and
David Goodalis (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Central) third (44-10).
Carthage's
Camren Howard (Fr., Olympia Fields, Ill./Chicago Heights-Marian Catholic) won the 1,000-meter run (2:36.25). Goodalis was second in the weight throw (58-0 ½), as was
J.D. Fuller (Sr., Woodstock, Ill.) in the 1,000-meter run (2:37.16).
Mike Brown (Sr., St. Charles, Ill./East) finished third in the 55-meter dash (6.60), as did
Kevin Kulling (So., Naperville, Ill./Central) in the 600-meter dash (1:27.57) and
Caleb Jenks (Jr., Sullivan, Wis./Hartland-Lake Country Lutheran) in the 5,000-meter run (16:25.54).
Bryan Collins (So., Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf) took fourth in the 600-meter dash (1:30.07), as did
Dan Cotton (Fr., Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) in the 1,000-meter run (2:41.17) and
Erlan Wheeler III (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Bradford) in the 5,000-meter run (16:44.22).
The Red Men travel to Bloomington, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 6-7 for the Illinois Wesleyan University "Bob Keck Invitational" at the Shirk Center Fieldhouse (3 p.m./11 a.m.).
