Box Score The Carthage College women's lacrosse team (11-7, 8-2 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference) lost to No. 27 Augustana College (Ill., 18-0), 17-11, on Saturday night, May 3 in the title game of the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament at Augustana College's Thorsen-Lucken Field in Rock Island, Ill.
Carthage, seeded second, opened tournament play on Friday, May 2 with a 15-14 win in triple-overtime over third-seeded Concordia University (Wis., 12-5, 8-2 MWLC) In the other semifinal contest, top-seeded and No. 27 Augustana (Ill., 16-0, 9-0 MWLC) defeated fourth-seeded North Central College (9-6, 8-2), 16-9.
In the loss to Augustana in the title game, Carthage opened up an early, 3-0 lead. The Vikings tied the game, 5-5, at 8:40. The Lady Reds' last lead was 6-5 at 8:19. Augustana led by two at halftime, 9-7. The Vikings opened up a four-point lead, 11-7, early in the second half and extended the margin to seven points, 15-8, at 12:46 second period. Augustana went on to win by six, 17-11.
Hilary Kargl, Kelly Stelzer and Olivia Mayer each had five goals for the Vikings, with Kargl adding three assists.
Anna Schweiss (Sr., Parker, Colo./Chaparral) led the Lady Red with four goals.
