Box Score The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (15-6, 8-2 Midwest Lacrosse Conference) lost to Aurora University (15-3, 10-0 MLC), 9-6, on Saturday afternoon, May 3 in the title game of the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament at Aurora's Vago Field in Aurora, Ill. Carthage opened tournament play on Wednesday, April 30 with a 10-5 win over Concordia University (Wis., 14-4, 9-1 MLC) in a semifinal game at Fitting Field in Mequon, Wis. In the other semifinal contest, Aurora (14-3, 10-0 MLC) defeated Augustana College (Ill., 9-7, 6-4 MLC), 15-6, at Vago Field.
In the title game, Carthage took a 3-1 lead in the first period before Aurora tied the game, 3-3. The Spartans took a 4-3 lead at the start of the second period. The Red Men tied the game, 4-4, but fell behind, 5-4, late in the second period. Carthage tied the contest, 5-5, on a goal by
Tanner Thomas at 8:06 third period. Aurora re-gained the lead, 6-5, with nine seconds to play in the third period on a goal by Alex Gebben.
The Red Men knotted things up again at 6-6 at 7:24 fourth period on a goal by
Jack Meachum. The Spartans then scored three unanswered goals for the final, 9-6 margin. Gebben scored again at 6:23, followed by a pair of Jack Barry goals at 5:04 and 2:49, respectively.
Jack Meachum (Sr., Naperville, Ill./North) led the Red Men with two goals and an assists. Jack Barry had four goals for Aurora.
