Box Score 2 The Carthage College softball team (22-12, 8-6 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) closed out its regular-season schedule on Sunday, April 27 by splitting a non-conference doubleheader with the University of Chicago (24-8) at the Carthage Softball Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Lady Reds won the opening game, 3-2, but the Maroons took the nightcap, 4-3.
The Maroons built a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning of the opener, thanks to an RBI-single by Maggie O'Hara in the third and a solo home run by Kathleen Kohm in the fourth. The Lady Reds tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run single by
Alyse Mikolas. Carthage scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on a solo homer by
Katie Morman (Sr., Kenosha, Wis./Somers-Shoreland Lutheran).
Tina Campbell (Sr., St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood, 4-1) pitched a complete game and allowed just two runs on three hits and a walk. Jordan Poole (14-3) was the losing pitcher. Vicky Pyan had two hits for the Lady Reds.
In the second game, Carthage took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by
Abby Hanson (Sr., Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township). Devan Parkison's RBI single in the sixth tied the game for Chicago. The Maroons took a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh on a two-run double by pinch-hitter Julia Covello. The Lady Reds scored once in the bottom half on an RBI-double by
Olivia Scott. Carthage managed only three hits on Chicago starting pitcher Tabbetha Bohac (10-5).
Tina Campbell (4-2) took the loss in relief of
Darian Pelsor.
Carthage closed out its regular-season conference schedule on Saturday, April 26 by splitting a doubleheader with Millikin University (17-18, 1-9 CCIW) at Borg Warner Field in Decatur, Ill. The Big Blue won the first game, 3-2 in eight innings, and the Lady Reds took the nightcap, 4-2. Carthage swept a Friday, April 25 CCIW-doubleheader with North Park University in Chicago to clinch a berth in next week's CCIW Softball Tournament. This will be Carthage's 17th conference-tournament appearance since 1988. The two wins provided Carthage coach

Conference-champion Illinois Wesleyan University will play host to the Friday-Saturday, May 2-3 CCIW Softball Tournament at the Illinois Wesleyan Softball Field in Bloomington, Ill. The top-seeded and No. 12 Titans (32-5, 12-2 CCIW) play fourth-seeded Carthage in a first-round game on Friday, with second-seeded and No. 20 Augustana College (Ill., 29-9, 10-4 CCIW) playing third-seeded and No. 17 North Central College (29-9, 9-5 CCIW) in the other first-round contest.
