Lady Reds Travel to North Park on Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Carthage College softball team (18-10, 5-5 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) swept a Wednesday, April 23 doubleheader from non-conference opponent Concordia University (Ill., 10-22), 9-0 and 6-2, at the Carthage Softball Field in Kenosha, Wis. 
 
Carthage took a 3-0 lead in the third inning of the opener on a Vicki Pyan singled and a two-run double by Abby Hanson.  The Lady Reds scored four times in the fifth to make it a 7-0 game.  Abby Hanson scored on a wild pitch, and Bryanna Heckel hit a bases-loaded double.  A two-run homer by Olivia Scott in the sixth gave Carthage a 9-0 lead, and the game ended at that point due to an eight-run rule.  Abby Hanson (Sr., Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) went three-for-four with two runs scored and two RBI.  Katie Herron (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park, 6-3) was the winning pitcher, as she twirled a two-hit shutout over six innings, walking four and striking out six batters.  Meghan Johnson (6-11) took the loss.
 
In the nightcap, Carthage had a 4-1 lead after four innings.  Vicki Pyan singled in a run as part of a three-run third inning, and Katie Morman doubled in two more.  The Lady Reds made it 6-1 in the fifth on a base-loaded walk to Darian Pelsor and a Becky Cronk RBI-single.  The Cougars tallied a run in the sixth to close out the scoring at 6-2.  Pyan and Cronk each had two hits.  Darian Pelsor (Fr., Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook, 3-3) was the winning pitcher.  She allowed one run on five hits and a walk over five innings. Andrea Kelly (2-5) took the loss.
 
Carthage travels to Chicago on Friday, April 25 to take on CCIW-opponent North Park University (15-13, 3-3 CCIW) in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.
