The Carthage College men's tennis team (14-6, 3-1 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) won both ends of a Saturday, April 12 CCIW double-dual match at the Augustana College (Ill.) Tennis Courts in Rock Island, Ill. Carthage defeated the host-Vikings (11-8, 1-1 CCIW), 5-4, before blanking Millikin University (3-5, 0-3) by a 9-0 margin. With the Millikin decision, Carthage coach
Brady Lindsley won his 300th career match (300-121 men's record, 17 years thru April 15).
Carthage's
Alex Boomgarden (So., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 17-10) lost to Augustana's Lawrence Palmer at No. 1 singles, the latter winning, 6-3, 6-4. Boomgarden then defeated Millikin's Taylor Nave, 6-2, 6-0.
Ryan Jump (So., Mundelein, Ill., 17-8) defeated Augustana's Andy Wall at No. 2 singles, 6-3. 6-4, and won over Millikin's Emerick Fulton, 6-0, 6-0.
Pawel Jaworski (Fr., Deerfield, Ill., 17-7) split at No. 3 singles.
Chris Conley (So., Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield Academy, 15-9) won both of his No. 4 singles matches, as did
Tony O'Connell (So., Roswell, N.M./Natabua, 18-7) at No. 5 singles.
Alex Ferruzzi (So., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central, 13-10) split at No. 6 singles. Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of
Pawel Jaworski and
Chris Conley (7-4) defeated both Augustana and Millikin, as did the Red Men's No. 2 team of
Alex Boomgarden and
Ryan Jump (7-3). Carthage's No. 3 tandem of
Tony O'Connell and Alex Feruzzi (3-3) lost to Augustana.
Carthage travels to Lake Forest, Ill., on Wednesday, April 16 to play non-conference opponent Lake Forest College in a 3 p.m. match at the Lake Forest Tennis Courts.
