Men's Tennis Falls to No. 23 UW-Whitewater, 8-1, on March 7

The Carthage College men's tennis team (8-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) lost to No. 23 Wisconsin-Whitewater (8-5), 8-1, on Friday, March 7 at Premier Tennis & Fitness in Janesville, Wis.
 
Carthage's Alex Boomgarden (So., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 11-7) lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater's Jake Hunphreys at No. 1 singles, the latter winning, 6-0, 6-0.  Ryan Jump (So., Mundelein, Ill., 11-5) lost to the Warhawks' Byron Balkin at No. 2 singles, the latter winning, 6-1, 6-1.  Pawel Jaworski (Fr., Deerfield, Ill., 10-5) lost at  No. 3 singles, as did Chris Conley (So., Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield Academy, 8-7) at No. 4 singles, Tony O'Connell (So., Roswell, N.M./Natabua, 12-4) at No. 5 singles and Alex Ferruzzi (So., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central, 9-5) at No. 6 singles.
 
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Pawel Jaworski and Chris Conley (2-0) defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater's Byron Balkin and Brian Klein, 8-6.  The Red Men's No. 2 team of Alex Boomgarden and Ryan Jump (0-1) fell to the Warhawks, as did the No. 3 tandem of Tony O'Connell and Conor Moon (5-4).
 
The Red Men play host to Wisconsin-Eau Claire (5-4) on Saturday, March 8 in a 10 a.m. contest at the Racine Racquet & Fitness Club in Racine, Wis.
