The Carthage College men's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) opened the indoor portion of their 2013-14 season on Saturday, Feb. 1 with an 8-1 win over Carroll University (Wis., 0-1) at the Moorland Park Tennis Center in New Berlin, Wis.
 
Carthage's Alex Boomgarden (So., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 5-3) lost to Carroll's Jack Michael at No. 1 singles, Michael winning, 6-3, 6-7, 10-6.  Ryan Jump (So., Mundelein, Ill., 6-1) defeated the Pioneers' Matthew Michael at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-2.  Pawel Jaworski (Fr., Deerfield, Ill., 4-2) was a winner at No. 3 singles, as was Chris Conley (So., Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield Academy, 2-3) at No. 4 singles, Tony O'Connell (So., Roswell, N.M./Natabua, 5-2) at No. 5 singles and Alex Ferruzzi (So., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central, 3-1) at No. 6 singles.
 
The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Alex Boomgarden and Pawel Jaworski (1-0) was an 8-6 winner over Jack Michael/Matthew Michael.  Carthage's No. 2 team of Ryan Jump and Chris Conley (2-1) was a winner over Carroll, as was the No. 3 tandem of Tony O'Connell and Conor Moon (Jr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock (Ill.)-Marian Central Catholic, 1-0).
 
The Red Men travel to Jackson, Wis., on Friday, Feb. 7 to play Gustavus Adolphus College (0-0) in a 6 p.m. match at the Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club in Jackson, Wis.
