The Carthage College women's tennis team (3-1, 2-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) won its third-straight match on Saturday, Sept. 7 by sweeping a CCIW double-dual contest at the North Central College Tennis Courts in Naperville, Ill. Carthage edged North Central (Ill., 0-1, 0-1 CCIW), 5-4, before blanking Millikin University (0-4, 0-3 CCIW) by a 9-0 margin.
Carthage's Bari Reynolds (Sr., Sterling, Ill., 3-1) defeated North Central's Katie Drone at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 and won over Millikin's Paige Bequette, 6-3, 6-0. Haleigh McPeek (Jr. Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 2-2) defeated the Cardinals' Miranda Grizaffi at No. 2 singles, Geoffrey winning, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, and won over the Big Blue's Meagan Booth, 6-0, 6-0. Abbi Howell (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest, 3-4) split at No. 3 singles, as did Eliza Barter (Fr., Deerfield, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy, 3-4) at No. 4 singles. Holly Weber (Sr., Salem, Wis./Westosha Central, 3-1) lost to North Central at No. 5 singles, but Kelsey Bowen (Sr., Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township, 3-1) was a winner at No. 6 singles against the Cardinals.
The Lady Reds' No. 1 doubles team of Reynolds and McPeek (6-1) defeated North Central's Katie Drone/Kelsey Forkin, 8-5, and won over Millikin's Paige Bequette/Meagan Booth, 8-0. Carthage's No 2 team of Howell and Barter (2-2) lost to North Central but won over Millikin. The Lady Reds' No. 3 tandem of Weber and Kristen Kalinka (Fr., Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph, 6-1) won both of their matches.
Carthage plays host to the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday, Sept. 11 in a 5 p.m. twilight match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
