Box Score The Carthage College women's lacrosse team (10-6, 5-2 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference) lost to MWLC-opponent North Central College (9-4, 6-1 MWLC), 10-9 in overtime on Thursday, April 25 at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ill.
With the win, the Cardinals can secure the second seed in next week's MWLC Tournament with a victory on Sunday, April 28 over Fontbonne University (currently 2-7, 1-5 MWLC). Carthage plays host to Fontbonne on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at Art Keller Field, and the Lady Reds need a win over the Griffins to nail down the third seed. Augustana College (Ill.) will play host to the conference tournament on Friday-Saturday, May 3-4 at Thorsen-Lucken Field in Rock Island, Ill.
The Lady Reds led the Cardinals, 5-3, after the first period. Carthage led by three, 8-5, following a goal by
Natalie Ceis at 19:45 second period. North Central scored three unanswered goals to tie the contest, 8-8, at 9:43. A goal by
Olivia Nino at 8:40 gave Carthage the lead back, 9-8, but the Cardinals' Ali Kluck scored with 12 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime. North Central took the lead, to stay, 10-9, with a goal by Danielle Fiala at 3:03 in overtime. Carthage's
Sydney Whitaker had a free-position shot with 28 second to go that was saved by Cardinals' goalkeeper Sarah Hon.
Fiala led North Central with three goals, two assists and two ground balls, while Leea LoPresti had three goals and five ground balls. For the Lady Reds,
