Softball Winds Up Spring Trip with a Split Against Concordia (Wis.) and Southern Maine on March 27

Lady Reds Play Host to St. Norbert on Monday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Carthage College softball team (10-4, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 20th in the March 27 National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, completed a 10-game spring trip to the National Training Center Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., on Wednesday, March 27, losing to Concordia University (Wis., 6-8), 5-4 in eight innings, before defeating the University of Southern Maine (1-9) by a 13-2 margin.  The Lady Reds went 6-4 on the trip.
 
In the 5-4 loss to Concordia (Wis.), Carthage loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the eighth inning but came up empty.  the Falcons' Mariah Giesseman was placed on second base to start the bottom of the eighth, under tie-breaking rules.  Giesseman advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an infield single by Stephanie Kramer.  Melissa Perkins (1-4) was the winning pitcher, despite giving up four runs on 14 hits.  Krystina Leazer (Sr., Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove, 6-2) took the loss, with Bryanna Heckel (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central) going four-for-five.
 
In the 13-2 win over Southern Maine, Katie Morman (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Somers-Shoreland Lutheran) went four-for-four with four doubles and six RBI.  Her four doubles ties a Carthage game record set by Amanda Leitzen versus the Milwaukee School of Engineering on March 30, 2005.  Tina Campbell (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood, 4-2) was the winning pitcher. 

Carthage plays host to St. Norbert College (7-5) on Monday, April 1 in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at the Carthage Softball Field in Kenosha, Wis.
